July Camping: Kananaskis

Do you remember me mentioning Louis from our first day camping when the nose jack collapsed.  Well Louis is an avid camper and he invited us and a whole load of his friends to a group camp out in the wilderness of Kananaskis.

Our truck was still dead but I was loaned a truck for the weekend, it was a very nice GMC 3/4 ton extended cab.  So as per usual, as soon as work was done on the Friday night we hitched up and headed for the back of beyond.  It must have took us about 3 hours to get there and it was quite late when we pulled into the camp ground.

The parking arrangement was, if there is a space you can park there..... so we found a space and parked there.  Some of the die hards were still up drinking G&T and beer which was great because they saved some food for us and obviously a few beers.

Next morning was the communal breakfast provided by Louis and his wife Diane, who incidentally is from England.  Louis is as passionate about his cooking as he is about his camping and almost single handed fed about 30 hungry campers.  Unfortunately we could not take Gizmo because of the loaner truck, it was a real shame because there were loads of other dogs there and he would have loved it.

We went out exploring in the truck that day and bad luck struck again, one of the front tires threw a tread and we had to call out our recovery again as we had no tools (shame on us).  He dragged us into Calgary and into Canadian tire where the guys there stuck 2 new front tires on for us and we were off again in about 2 hours.  We could not believe the mechanical bad luck we were having.

We got back to the camp ground and unfortunately missed supper, this was not really the end of the world as we always carry loads of food in the trailer anyway.  We were in time for the evenings drinks and socialising though which went on quite late into the evening.

Sunday morning we said our farewells and hitched up ready for the trip home, it was a great weekend and i would like to extend a thank you to all who made it a fantastic weekend.
